Chemically, petrolatum serves multiple functions, acting as a binder, carrier, emollient, lubricant, plasticiser, and softener. It finds applications in a wide range of products including body care, ethnic hair care, hair care, hair styling, lip care, over-the-counter (OTC) products, pharmaceuticals, and skin care. Additionally, petrolatum is biodegradable, making it an eco-friendly choice.

Petrolatum is ideal for moisturising skin that is prone to extreme dryness. Products containing at least 30% petrolatum can temporarily protect and help relieve chafed, chapped, or cracked skin, shielding it from the drying effects of wind and cold weather.
